Steelcase strengthens its partnership with Green-Works

Steelcase has signed a one year extension of its partnership in the UK with Green-Works, the not-for-profit social enterprise which provides redundant office furniture for re-use by schools, charities and community organisations.

Mark Spragg, Managing Director of Steelcase UK, said: “Green-Works provides a fantastic service which allows organisations to deal with their old office furniture in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

“We are very proud of the social benefits that come from the rehabilitation side of our partnership with Green-Works. Our strengthened partnership will ensure that these benefits can continue into the future and compliment our established sustainability strategy and environmental commitment.”

Green-Works not only aims to change the way that society thinks about waste, it also aims to help the community. In addition to protecting the environment by re-using redundant furniture, Green-Works helps the community and seeks to create employment specifically for the disadvantaged or long-term unemployed.

Colin Crooks, Chief Executive, Green-Works said: ”We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Steelcase as it really helps us to build our own social and environmental credentials.

“By introducing new skills into the community and rehabilitating those who are most in need, we are able to show the social benefits of our partnership and the great work that can be done in helping to create employment opportunities.”

One of the many success stories from the Green-Works program is Justin Shadrache. Originally on a six-month placement through the Goals Project, Justin went on to become a full-time Green-Works’ warehouse operative and was kept on part- time for a year while starting his university access course.

“I was unemployed for nearly two years and Green-Works gave me the chance to prove myself rather than judging me on my past. I have learnt new skills like dealing with customers and now I will have a proper reference and better employment prospects.”
