Allan Smith, Vice-President of Steelcase International was ranked within the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics Allan Smith of Steelcase Inc, was ranked seventy-ninth in the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics listing by Ethisphere Magazine, a global publication dedicated to illuminating the important correlation between ethics and profit. The list of individuals, which appeared in the Q4 issue in December 2007, were all recognised for inspiring change in business ethics. Steelcase is proud to have Allan Smith represent our company as the only furniture company executive on this year's Business Ethics list. Under Allan's environmental leadership, the company has brought to market the most Cradle-to-Cradle certified products in any industry, the company has become virtually VOC-free in its manufacturing processes, and we have set our sights on eliminating the use of PVC by 2012. A panellist of ethics experts from major universities including New York University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Delaware, and Arizona State University, ranked individuals who influenced ethical behaviour in global business. Research was done in co-operation with analysts from the Ethisphere Institute and while hundreds of individuals were considered, ultimately only 100 made the list and are listed in order from 1 to 100, based upon relative weightings provided by the panellists and analysts. These individuals deserve tremendous praise for their efforts to advance the public discourse on issues relating to business ethics. The finalists represent many different industries and organisations--large and small, public and private--but what unites them is an unwavering commitment to promoting ethical best practices and stimulating corporate social responsibility.
