OPI Conference Steelcase International Vice President, Allan Smith made his mark as a keynote speaker at the 2008 OPI conference in Rome in front of industry friends, colleagues, and competitors. The OPI conference provided an invaluable opportunity to hear about current issues and trends in the office furniture industry by experts in the industry. Allan Smith set out to explain how all industry can make a bigger and better effort to reducing its environmental impact. His key message was that manufacturing and product design must adopt 'life cycle thinking' and reduce its environmental impact at every stage of a product's life to make the best contribution to saving the planet. At Steelcase, 'Life Cycle Thinking' presumes that environmental controls will be applied to every stage of development, movement and usage to minimise damage to the environment and favour recyling and re-use. |
