Gensler
and Steelcase exchange B Free ideas
Last month, international architects Gensler opened the doors of their London office for an evening of drinks and contemplation about Steelcase's B Free Lounge range and the concept behind it.
The recently launched B Free Lounge range from Steelcase was designed
to enable people to relax and to be productive in non-traditional
office spaces like corridors, cafés, welcome areas and photo-copy corners. It is one of the best examples of the intersecting roles that design, architecture and ergonomics play in workspace planning.
Gary Wheeler, Director of Workplace Europe, Gensler said: "Cross-pollination
of ideas from different design and architectural fields is what keeps
our industries so vibrant. Steelcase has a really knowledge based
approach and it was interesting to get a window into their concept
development."
At the event Steelcase presented B Free lounge office installations
which reflected how the design team, a collaboration between Steelcase
and Holland based C10 design, had originally conceived of the range
being used. The attending architects and designers were then challenged
to come up with different and creative settings for the pieces of
the B Free Lounge range.
Karin Grandhay, Marketing Director, Steelcase UK, said: "We
really value architectural input to our product design and space
planning processes. When we design a new piece of furniture we think
about who is using it, how it is being used and how it will interact
with its interior and built environments. It's a holistic approach
which draws on architectural, design and ergonomic perspectives."
