A new project for Steelcase & Business Interiors: Devon Wildlife Trust

With the environment being the forefront priority of Devon Wildlife Trust, Steelcase was an obvious choice to Business Interiors to dress the Devon Wildlife Trust headquarters with furniture. Cricklepit Mill, a damaged historic listed building in the heart of Exeter’s town centre has been transformed into a tranquil office environment, with the help of Business Interiors’ workplace expertise and Steelcase’s environmentally friendly products.

The redevelopment of the Cricklepit Mill, with its high ceilings and exposed beams, is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by Devon Wildlife Trust in its long history.   Business Interiors’ used its knowledge of office styles and layouts to maximise the potential of the space and capture exactly the requirements of Devon Wildlife Trust. Steelcase’s tasteful, innovative designs accompanied this setting perfectly.

Demonstrating the environmental credentials of each of the products used in the project was a priority for Devon Wildlife Trust and as a leader in its field for sustainable design, Steelcase was up for the challenge. For each of the products selected Steelcase provided an Environmental Product Declaration(EPDs) which detailed clear and transparent information about a product's environmental impact at every stage of its lifecycle, such as recycled content, recyclability and carbon footprint.

“When it came to fitting the building out with carpet and furniture our demands were no less exacting and we set high standards for Business Interiors to source products with demonstrably green credentials both in their design and construction materials but also in the speed and ease of disassembly and recyclability of the components.”

The result of this project is a truly inspiring office environment that fuses heritage, nature and design into a special mix that captures the essence of Devon Wildlife Trust perfectly.
