Steelcase Leap® LiveBack® technology takes flight on board Cathay Pacific's new economy class

Steelcase is pleased to announce that its LiveBack® seating technology is now on board Cathay Pacific flights. Based on intense research, which included first-hand observation and video ethnography, on the habits and desires of airline passengers on long-haul flights, a new level of comfort is now available to tourist class seating. 

Steelcase’s LiveBack® technology, provided in Cathay Pacific’s tourist class seating, sets a new standard in main cabin seating and creates a better, more comfortable experience for the passenger. 

LiveBack® technology is designed to mould around each individuals spine to reduce the chance of lower back sag and a hunched posture. By conforming to each individual‘s unique “spine print" passengers enjoy greater comfort and support over extended periods of time.

“Our new fixed back design allows a passenger to recline without intruding on those seated behind. The uniquely contoured back and the relocation of the literature pocket have also increased the space available for legs and knees.”

This is the second field in which Steelcase has licensed its patented Leap® seating technologies to a company outside its industry.  The first licensing agreement was announced in early 2003, when Steelcase agreed to license the Leap® technology to Johnson Controls for use in automotive seating.
