Chevron Employees give Steelcase Project the green light
Global energy company Chevron and Steelcase Consulting have created a showcase for Upstream Europe employees to preview their new workplace which is currently under construction at Hill of Rubislaw in Aberdeen.
Mock settings of the proposed office re-design demonstrating furniture, lay-outs, colour schemes and technology were on show to employees who have been central to the evolution of Chevron's new Upstream Europe headquarters since the project began in August 2005. It is expected that the new building will be ready for occupation in April 2007.
Nearly 200 employees working at Chevron's current office in Aberdeen took part in the guided tours conducted jointly by Steelcase and Chevron project team members, which were intended to give people a sense of the atmosphere of their new environment as well as the physical design.
Frances Graham, Workplace Consultant, Steelcase Consulting, said: "Chevron is implementing a new technology platform that will enable real-time data sharing among on-shore, off-shore and international sites. We had to be innovative in order to provide an enduring office environment that could accommodate and support these ambitious technological and operational changes."
The new environment is a balance of individual and group, formal and informal, spaces that transforms Chevron's offices from a traditional working environment, to a more flexible one that encourages collaboration.
There are individual workspaces, quiet rooms, huddle rooms, decision environments and a conference suite as well as more open community spaces, such as breakout pods, interactive cafés and resource areas; once completed these environments will be fitted with state of the art equipment, technology and software.
As a result of the positive feedback about the process, Steelcase Consulting are now engaged on projects in Houston and Louisiana totalling over 3.3 million sq ft.
