Special Olympics
Public Sector PR / Complete
Introduction
Media House was employed by the Special Olympics Great Britain and Glasgow City Council to develop a PR plan for the SOGB Games 2005, beginning with the initial launch of the Games and continuing until after the Closing Ceremony.
Objectives
To support Glasgow City Council fundraising initiatives. To generate widespread public and media awareness of the Games. To increase understanding of the nature of learning disabilities and the aims of the Special Olympics as an international charity. To maximise spectator attendance at the Games. To create a positive perception of Glasgow as a host city on a par with the leading cities of the world.
Results
Over the course of the campaign we achieved more than 400 print articles, as well as coverage on over 25 radio and TV news and sports programmes across the UK.
Press was generated surrounding regional athletes case studies, success stories, celebrity and business ambassadors, key fundraising events and the national torch run. Glasgow City Council met their fundraising targets. The Games were a huge success.
Testimony
“the level, and perhaps more importantly, relevance of the media coverage generated by Media House was outstanding.”
Gordon Ritchie, Head of Marketing Glasgow City Council
